Technically Tenchu 3 is the most dissapointing game, since it was the first next-gen release and everybody was expecting so much. It failed to deliver on pretty much every aspect. Bad story, bad A.I., bad graphics (considering the standard at the time), bad level direction, bad voice acting, bad character design, bad animation, bad combat system, bad camera control, bad, bad, bad, bad, BAD! The word has now lost all meaning.
I honestly could not believe, after completing the game, that this was the result of 3 years of intensive effort. It reeked of amateurism, the beautiful, authentically Japanese atmosphere created by Acquire was destroyed and replaced with puerile, superfulous rubbish. It played and sounded like a cr@ppy Saturday morning Anime series. I was absolutely disgusted, I had even skipped school to play it the day it was released. In a past life on this forum I drove everyone to distraction harping on about how terrible it was, and now look I'm doing it again. It's amazing how a game which I haven't bothered playing in over 3 years can still aggrivate me so much I have to talk about it

The word hasn't lost ALL meaning.. it just gained new standards. Yeah. I gotta complain about the AI, too. Kinda stupid. Although I still loved WoH mostly because of my sadistic sense of humor when murdering those stupid rent-a-cops in the portal level. And yes the combat system sucked. But hey. Things happen.. bad things. So what?
Let us keep up the Tenchu 4 suggestion thread till everything goes through or something. Might as well considering how much of a threat to our patience the next one will be due to a lack of effort on the company in question's part. |

I cant believe that people keep praising the story of tenchu 1 over tenchu 3. Im not saying that the one in 3 is better than the one in 2, because its basically just a recap of the previous two games but cheesier. But unlike t1 it has atleast got some flow and the missions link together alot better. After saying this I would like to say that I think tenchu 1 and 3 are the best tenchu games. 3 for the tesshu story (atleast something new?) and the controller. 1 for the mood that only came with ps1 games along with an overall great game. 2 Is also good but not as good as the first and too annoying to bother with nowadays. FS improved the gameplay but the story was even cheesier than the B-side of T3, yet not as funny but still playable tho. The portable games are straightthrough worthless except maybe for homemade missions for the psp game, but why bother when you can play t2 on it instead? Still haven't played Z but I'm not pleased from what I've heard. for me the story I consider canon is 2, 1, FS, WoH. And maybe some of the things in TotA because *I haven't completed it (still hoping for a US version with bugfixes). |

No one can really argue that Tenchu 1 had the best story since there really wasn't one. Each level was just a random assortment of missions issued by Ghoda
(although the prologue/briefing for each mission contained a little miny story in it's own right) and Onikage and Mei-Oh just kind of floated around in the
background not really materializing until the final stage. There was also minimal interaction between each character.
Tenchu 2 was obviously more intricate. Each character followed their own path with distinct missions and played key roles in the main plot. The story about a world ruled by ninja and the whole Tatsu Kagami love interest was pretty hammy, but I still appreciated the structure and the depth put into each character, with lengthy cutscenes and some fairly decent acting, something which I wanted to see developed in Tenchu 3. Of course I was dissappointed. For a start WOH's story was juvenile and underdeveloped, with exceedingly poor explinations for Rikimaru's return, not to mention the resurrection of Tatsu and Onikage. The characters were completely one dimensional, the acting was horrific and worst of all nobody's story tied together. The option to choose, at certain stages, what path you wanted to follow was completely wasted, since all it did was generate different endings that only served to confuse players as to which story was canon. Ayame's story may as well have never happened, then, if we are to believe Rikimaru is the one who defeated Tenrai. |

I have played every single Tenchu except for the DS and PSP one. And let me say this..
Tenchu Z is the worst, next to Fatal Shadows. The game started going down once From Software gained control. I believe, in my opinion of course, that everyone at Activion was so unimpressed by how Tenchu 3 did, that they passed it on to a different company. Or, they couldn't think of where to go with the game and gave up. [i find this unlikely though] I liked this game. [PLEASE DON'T THROW ANYTHING AT ME!! *hides in a corner*] I was impressed from the graphic jump from before to Tenchu 3. The soundtrack I loved, but it will never beat Stealth Assassins. Yes, I have complaints [as usual -Voice acting. Not impressive. I did like it Daniel Dae Kim as Rikimaru. He did a good job. The voice actors didn't really use any emotion. I was disappointed. Ayame wasn't even sarcastic! -Cheesy-ness anyone? It was too cheesy. Seriously, do you really think Ayame would act that way at all?? -Enemy AI. Bad...really bad. -If they were already resurrecting Tatsu and Onikage, why didn't they just resurrect Lady Kei, Kagami, and Master Shiounsai as well?? [i'm being sarcastic] Resurrection? In a Tenchu game. It was never about that at all! -Levels. Finding the swords? Was that just to make up levels and kill time? [i think it was]
"Live by Honor Kill By Stealth."
"Life is good because I'm breathing. Heaven's just a state of grieving. Good and evil, human beings. Sorry if that hurt your feelings." |

Tatsumaru stole the show in T2. But in WOH, he was thrown in just to appease the fans. Since the characters had separate storylines, making sense of it
all is impossible.
The only part I found interesting was the Izayoi being damaged and Rikimaru using the steel from the Shischisto to repair it. I don't know if they'll bring this up again since there's an option to just use regular metal. Who'd want to use scrap metal to fix the sacred sword of the Azuma? |

to me The most disappointing Tenchu Games are.
4 tenchu ds not fill the niminal requerimentes of a tenchu game. 3 tenchu z i like the coop multi payer its a grate innovation but let face it if rikimaru and ayame out of the gameplay its not a real tenchu. 2 tenchu fatal shadows, tere is a litle diferences of both characters, rin its the main character instead of ayame (to me the main character fight with the bad guy), i spected more story of ayame how she feel be the last of her clan. 1 tenchu 4 it have great graphics the story is a very good one, but the potencial of be the beter of the games was wasted, i insist the first person view in the figths is the most by far disappointing point in the tenchu saga. |

Tenchu DS was awful, took it back and practically threw it at the shop owner.
TZ was fun online just so freakin basic. T2 was more vibrant. FS felt a bit hollow, I always played a mission and then turned it off to play WOH. I liked T4 very much but felt it relied too heavily on items and the combat makes me physically sick. The console gets the blame for this which is unjust. |

WOH is not a prefect game but at least i put in a very good trilogy.
and i play first tenchu 2 then 1 then fatal shadows and for the last woh, and a tenchu game whit out rikimaru is not a tenchu game, so for me the tenchu 1 2 and 3 are one of the best sagas |

i had no idea there was so many tenchu haters out there! i have played to death( no pun intended) tenchu 1, 2 ( PS) WOH, FS ( PS2) and ive just started with
tenchu z.
i have loved every one of them so far! despite each game having some big flaws.. i think alot of people forget how cool it is to control a ninja! how cool it is to flip, jump and somersault through a village full of enemy soliders, killing them all in various different ways without them even knowing you are there! i dont really mind about a deep and intricate story as long as i can moonsault off a high rooftop and stealth kill an enemy before i touch the floor! i would say my favorite tenchu is tenchu z! i havent even attempted to take in the story! lol.. infact the only tenchu story i have really gotten into was tenchu 2. if you want to spend your gaming time watching huge cutscenes and reading pages of story i suggest MGS games! i prefer to crawl along a ceiling above a samurai , pull him up onto my katana then drop the body and slink back into the shadows. some kind of story is great.. but im more interested in actually playing the game! |

Didn't realize so many people were disappointed in the third installment. My friend and I played it to death and got a bigger kick out of being able to use
the computer characters not to mention finally being able to settle the score regarding who was the better player. Great game, I still play it to this day_^)
